Happy Holidays MAPA!
“2020 started off like every other January 1st, a day to start new habits, set new goals, read more books etc. As we started our individual treks into the beginning of 2020, a new word came into our vocabulary, Coronavirus aka COVID-19. The more we learned about Covid and began to see the workings of this debilitating virus the more we, as PAs, were called into action. We are looked upon to put in more hours and care for more patients. MAPA board members and myself could not be more proud of each of you and truly thank you for everything that you have done during this novel time.
We would like to wish you all Happy Holidays and a safe new year!!!”
-Abby Young MAPA President

Next up for our #meetheboardmembers spotlight is our amazing Secretary, Shelda Amilcka!
Hi! I'm Shelda Amilcka, Secretary of MAPA, Many of Her Kind, Sender of Emails, Keeper of Records and Connector of Members. I transplanted to the Charlotte area from Florida after graduating from Duke University PA Program. I started off my career in Urgent Care after completing Carolinas Healthcare System ACP Fellowship program. I currently practice with Novant Health in Neurology specializing in Sleep Medicine. Outside of work, you can find me serving the community, planning events or baking something yummy.
Being a part of MAPA has allowed me to connect with amazing PAs and support PA students in their studies with scholarships. In 2019, there were over 1000 PAs licensed in Mecklenburg County and I look forward to connecting with more of you through MAPA.
Double to show love π for our Secretary!

ICYMI: NCAPA 2020 PA of the Year was awarded to each and every PA in North Carolina. Congratulations to YOU! π
Posted @withregram • @nc_apa As we all know, 2020 has proven to be a year like no other. At least, no other in the last 100 years! And PAs have been there throughout, going where help was needed and facing difficult challenges and choices to provide outstanding medical care. Due to NCAPA’s awe and admiration for your dedication and commitment, we have decided that this year, the NCAPA PA of the Year award belongs to each and every PA in North Carolina.
In honor of this extraordinary year, a plaque will hang in the Stead Center, recognizing you all and your incredible work this year, which we know will continue into the future. NCAPA is grateful to support and protect such an honorable group of professionals. We love PAs!

Next up for our #meettheboardmembers spotlight is our Vice-President, Charmeen Wilkes!
Hi MAPA members! My name is Charmeen. I’m also a rare Charlotte native. After a career as an Athletic Trainer, I became interested in the PA profession and graduated from Campbell University's inaugural PA program in 2013. Go Camels! I currently work in Emergency Medicine with US Acute Care Solutions at Atrium Health Cabarrus. I have a passion for leadership, networking, and advocating for the PA profession. I started in MAPA as just a member. I then transitioned to Secretary and now to Vice-President. In my spare time, I like to spend time with husband, our 7 month old baby boy Carter, and our yorkie Champ. I also love catching a good movie, reading books, a good fire pit and s’mores, and working out!
Double tap to show love π for our Vice-President!
