What is a Physician Assistant?
A Physician Assistant (PA) is a nationally certified and state licensed medical professional who practices medicine as a part of the healthcare team of physicians and other providers. They diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret tests, develop treatment plans, assist and perform procedures, and prescribe medications in all 50 US states and most territories. Their scope of practice varies based on the setting, level of experience, specialty and state practice laws. About Us
Welcome to Metrolina Association of Physician Assistants (MAPA). We are a diverse group of Physician Assistants, medical professionals and students in the Charlotte Metro area, including surrounding areas in North and South Carolina.
Members of MAPA meet monthly to receive clinical updates, network with fellow professionals, mentor students, and advocate for our profession. We are a regional branch of the North Carolina Academy of Physician Assistants (NCAPA) and partner with two local Physician Assistants programs in the area β Wingate University and Gardner Webb University. Our members work in a variety of clinical practices; inpatient, outpatient and specialty practices. Information about monthly meetings, job postings, yearly salary report and other events is distributed to members via email.
You can read MAPA's Constitution to learn more about how we function as an organization.
Interested in joining? Visit our membership page in order to become part of MAPA, or become a member through our collaboration with MCMS. Membership dues fund our annual scholarships for PA students, as well as organization expenses, web hosting fees, supplies, other administrative costs related to membership in the North Carolina Academy of Physician Assistants. All officers are volunteers and there are no paid staff.
